The Lancaster County Farmer’s Market in Wayne, PA, was a revelation to me. In spite of the fact that I love great, fresh food, I regularly drive past this market to go to the Whole Foods down the road in Devon. Why? I think it’s because it’s open odd days and not exactly work-friendly hours. It’s currently open Wednesday and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It’s better hours than most set-up/break-down markets in the area, but still, and I can’t imagine how packed it would be on a Saturday. Also worth noting: The Whole Foods in Devon has a bar. And they fill growlers.
So, this was my first visit. My two enthusiastic co-adventurers, M and B, got me out an over there on a recent Wednesday morning to scout out the stands for our upcoming Summer Grilling Party. Our first stop was breakfast at The Luncheonette, a little lunch joint in the market where we enjoyed Lancaster County Eggs with bacon and cheese on a Portuguese muffin with fresh squeezed OJ in a paper Coke cup with a straw. So good. We also eyed-up the gigantic homemade pancakes they were turning out, but they would have to wait for another day.
We loaded up on goodies for the party, including Roma tomatoes and cipollini onions for the Balsamic Glazed Venison Rolls, and green onions, shallots, and corn for the Grilled Corn Relish. And I grabbed some farm fresh eggs from Rittenhouse Farms and B snagged 25 handmade, hot out of the oven pigs in a blanket from Country Twist for snacking.
I’ll be back again soon.
